Sotira Waterfall

Sotira Waterfall (Ujëvara e Sotirës) is one of the most stunning natural sights in Albania, hidden in the Tomorr Mountains near the village of Sotirë. The waterfall plunges over 100 meters from a high limestone cliff into a lush green valley surrounded by wild peaks and forests.

Fed by underground springs and snowmelt from Mount Tomorr, it flows most powerfully in late spring and early summer, when the surrounding forest is at its greenest. Despite its beauty, Sotira is still far from the main tourist routes, making it a peaceful and authentic nature escape.

Most visitors reach the waterfall by combining off-road driving with hiking. If you have a 4×4 vehicle, you can drive part of the mountain track and then hike about 30–45 minutes each way through forest and meadows. Without a 4×4, you will need to hike the full route from Sotirë village, which takes about 1.5–2 hours each way.

Guided tours are also available from Gramsh for those who prefer an organized and hassle-free experience.

Practical Information for Visiting Sotira Waterfall

  • Location: Tomorr Mountains near Sotirë village (Skrapar region), about 25 km from Gramsh.
  • Best Time to Visit: May–June for the strongest water flow; late summer has weaker flow but drier trails.
  • What to Bring: Hiking shoes, plenty of water, snacks, sun protection, and offline maps (mobile signal is weak).
  • Facilities: None on-site — no shops, toilets, or shelters. Bring everything you need and take your waste back.
  • Difficulty: Moderate. The hike includes uneven and sometimes slippery paths, not ideal for very young children or people with mobility issues.

Driving Directions from Gramsh

From the town of Gramsh, drive about 25 km toward Sotirë village (around 40 minutes). The final stretch is a rough dirt track. If you don’t have a 4×4 vehicle, leave your car in Sotirë and continue on foot. With a 4×4, you can continue partway along the mountain path to shorten the hike to about 30–45 minutes each way.
