SHOPPING
Métropole Shopping Monte-Carlo is an elegant indoor shopping centre in the Carré d’Or, only a few minutes from Casino Square. It is known for its polished marble interior, large crystal chandeliers and mix of fashion, jewellery, beauty, technology and food. The atmosphere is refined, but the centre is not only for high-end shopping. Visitors can also browse more practical stores, stop for coffee or simply see one of Monte-Carlo’s most distinctive retail interiors.
The gallery opened on May 13, 1988, as part of a complex created by developer Nabil Boustany, with Prince Rainier III present at the inauguration. Monaco has long been associated with upscale tourism, especially around the Casino de Monte-Carlo and the Carré d’Or. Métropole Shopping continues that character in a modern indoor setting. Today, it is mainly a short stop while exploring central Monte-Carlo rather than a major attraction on its own.
The interior gives Métropole Shopping much of its character. Marble floors, decorative details and large crystal chandeliers create a grand setting that feels different from a typical modern mall. The chandeliers were made by German manufacturer Faustig and remain one of the gallery’s most recognisable features.
Métropole Shopping has around 80 boutiques covering designer fashion, jewellery, watches, beauty, accessories, technology, art, gourmet food and other categories. The mix is broader than its elegant appearance may suggest, with both premium brands and more practical stores. There are also cafés, restaurants and gourmet food shops for coffee, lunch or something sweet.
However, Métropole Shopping is only one part of Monaco’s wider retail district. Many major international fashion houses are located around nearby One Monte-Carlo and the Carré d’Or rather than inside the centre itself. The complex is compact, so casual visitors can see the main interior and browse without spending several hours here.
Tip: Check the current store directory before visiting if you are looking for one specific designer, as Monaco’s boutiques are spread across several nearby shopping areas.
Métropole Shopping currently opens Monday to Saturday from 10:00 to 19:30 and on Sunday from 11:00 to 19:00. Individual shops and restaurants may follow different hours, especially on public holidays.
Métropole Shopping is on Avenue des Spélugues in central Monte-Carlo, close to Casino Square. Monaco-Monte-Carlo railway station is about a 10-minute walk away. Bus lines 1, 5 and 6 stop at Citronniers, close to the centre.
Métropole Shopping has its own underground parking, with access at 5 Avenue des Citronniers. This is convenient if you are driving to the Casino Square area. Parking rates can change, so check the current tariff when entering.
Yes. There is no entrance fee. You can enter the galleries and browse the shops without making a purchase.
Around 30 to 60 minutes is enough for most visitors who want to see the interior and browse a few shops. Allow longer if you plan to shop seriously or stop for food.
It can be, especially if you are already exploring Casino Square and central Monte-Carlo. The marble interior and chandeliers are interesting to see, but visitors who are not interested in shopping will usually only need a short visit.
